Hatha Yoga

What is Hatha Yoga?

One of the first things I tell my students is that yoga is not about flexibility or a competition.  I don’t care if you can touch your toes, what I do care about is whether you are engaging your muscles to create stability in your postures.  Stability is the key to not injuring yourself (as well as not pushing yourself beyond your reasonable limits).  Once you have stability, that will lead to mobility and once you have more mobility in your muscles and joints then you can think about flexibility.  Remember that those great yogi’s out there did not all start out that way, there was a time that they couldn’t touch their toes either.

Hatha Yoga is the physical form of Yoga designed to bring balance and well-being into your life. It is totally different from any other kind of exercise. We stretch the body from the bone to the skin and from the head to the toes, which helps to quiet the mind, and energize the body and organs.

The movements of Yoga reach deep into the tissue, relieve tension and stress, revitalize and assist in overcoming many physical and emotional problems. For whatever reason you decide to try yoga, have an open heart, open mind and know you deserve to take that time for yourself to release a little with no expectations; just a space for you and your body to flow with your breath of life.

Yoga is the union of body, mind and spirit.

Classes are alignment based Hatha yoga inspired by the teachings of BKS Iyengar.
